It’s no secret that the construction industry has traditionally been male-dominated. However, in recent years, women have increasingly joined the industry, making significant contributions while paving the way for more women to follow in their footsteps. Celebrated annually during the first full week of March, Women in Construction Week gives us time to honor the incredible contributions that women make to the construction industry, including those who work right here at Martin Equipment.
It's estimated that out of all women-owned businesses in the U.S., just 4.1 percent of them are within the construction industry. Martin Equipment is one of them, led by our very own DeLene Martin Bane.
"When you're in this role and in a male-dominated industry, there's just a sense of pride for being recognized as being a female leader," Martin Bane said. “As the fourth generation, I was humbled to take the reins and continue our family's legacy of legendary customer support. I’m proud to be one of the few women business owners.”
As the construction industry continues to grow, there is a need for a diverse and skilled workforce to meet the demands of the market. Encouraging more women to pursue careers in construction can help to fill this need and ensure that the industry has the talent it needs to thrive. It has lasting impact on future generations, too.
“I think of all the opportunities my daughter has, and I don't want any barriers for her. I want her to feel like she can do whatever she wants to do," Martin Bane said. "This should be for any female who gets into business or the industry."
By supporting and celebrating women in the industry, including the women on the Martin Equipment team, we can help to create a more inclusive industry that benefits everyone. That means better results for customers as we continue to deliver legendary support.
This week, we thank and celebrate all women in construction, but we are especially grateful to those who work to better Martin Equipment each and every day.
